oase
Mental health and community application
Overview
Oase is preventative and community focused approach to mental health and wellbeing.
With the rise of mental health issues among young people in addition to rates of anxiety, loneliness and depression surging, Oase offers a safe space for building mental resilience and support systems through community building and activities.
Oase is a project created for the 2024 Kingston Mayor's Innovation Challenge.
Project Objectives
This project aims to design an application surrounding the topic of unbelonging. Some important objectives of the project include:
Encourage engagement with experiences of unbelonging as multidimensional. diverse and personal.
Bring often underrepresented voices into the foreground.
Offer a perspective on unbelonging as not just a consequential emotion and experience, but a choice as well.
Allow for diverse range of participation, where users can engage with stories through personal or fictional reflection.
Create a space for story writing, personal reflection and kinship through commonality and relatability.
Canadians between 18 - 39 years old reported the highest levels of anxiety, loneliness and depression.
Introducing oase: a preventative and community focused approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Express
Oase offers features such as a venting space, that allows users to express any and all emotions in a judgement free environment. Advice sessions that pair users with early career therapists who act as mentors are also available to provide effective improvement in their lives.
Engage
Our goal is to empower our users, especially the youth of Kingston, during their formative years. We offer positive opportunities and experiences through developing events and activities supported by the community and government.
Foster
By encouraging users to engage in activities, foster social relationships and build a nurturing community, we tackle some of the root causes of mental health challenges. We foster these relationships by providing a safe and respectful space for users to talk with other people their age.
Visualize
As an important part of wellbeing, we emphasize the ability for users to visualize their progress over time and take their health and development into their own hands.
